CfP – International Workshop of Young Researchers in Social Sciences and Humanities

We are pleased to invite PhD students from various academic institutions who are interested in the history of Central Europe to the First International Workshop of Young Researchers in Social Sciences and Humanities, organized by the Institute of History of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. The workshop will take place on April 21–22, 2026, in Bratislava, Slovakia, with the central theme: “Minority.”

In recent years, social sciences and humanities have increasingly focused on political, national, and gender minorities – groups often overlooked or marginalized in earlier historiography. This workshop responds to current academic debates and aims to expand knowledge about communities historically pushed to the periphery.

The workshop is open to young researchers (PhD students) in the social sciences and humanities with an interest in the political, social, and cultural history of 20th-century Central Europe. Our goal is to foster interdisciplinary exchange, stimulate dialogue on minority histories, and build an international network of emerging scholars.

Contributions may address historical, linguistic, social, or anthropological perspectives, and accepted papers will be grouped into thematic panels.

Practical information:

  • Please submit your abstracts by email to phdconference.sav@gmail.com.
  • Deadline for submission: October 31, 2025.
  • If the number of submissions exceeds the workshop’s capacity, abstracts will be selected based on quality and relevance.
  • Participants are kindly asked to arrange their own accommodation.
  • Lunch will be provided by the organizers.

We look forward to receiving your contributions and welcoming you to Bratislava!
