“Jewish Languages and Politics” Conference Highlights

Our international conference, “Jewish Languages and Politics: Ideological Choices of Jews in the Modern Era,” has officially concluded. We are very grateful for the energy, insights, and vibrant discussions the filled the conference room at POLIN Museum.

The event brought together an extraordinary group of global scholars to explore the historical, cultural, and political roles of Jewish languages—including Yiddish, Hebrew, Ladino, and others. Across numerous wonderful sessions, we examined how these languages functioned in contexts of crisis, migration, and identity formation. From a deeply moving keynote lecture on what the Holocaust did to Yiddish to fascinating panels on global diaspora culture, multilingualism, and theater, the conference pushed the boundaries of our collective scholarship and deepened our understanding of Jewish history.

The connections made during coffee breaks, lunches, and post-session debates have already sparked new ideas and future collaborations that will undoubtedly enrich our field for years to come.

Recordings of all the sessions are available to anyone upon request. To gain access to the video archive, simply write to us at digital@polin.pl, and our team will be happy to share the links with you.

The entire program is available at our website.

Webinar Series: Visions of the Jewish Future in Eastern Europe

We are proud to announce the success of our recent spring webinar series, “Visions of the Jewish Future in Eastern Europe: Education, Language, and Identity.” Over the past several weeks, we journeyed through the rich, competing educational worlds available to East European Jews in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, exploring how schooling shaped everyday life, cultural belonging, and ideas of Jewish identity.

This series – developed in partnership with YIVO – served as an engaging historical backdrop to the current temporary exhibition on languages at POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews. To view the full list of topics and speakers, you can visit the webinar series program on our website.

If you already registered, you should have received an email containing the direct links to all the recordings.

If you missed the registration deadline, don’t worry! You can still gain access to the complete recorded series. Simply send us an email at geop@polin.pl, and our team will gladly send the viewing links your way.

Thank you to all of our incredible speakers and the wonderful global audience who joined us live and sparked such vibrant discussions!
