Heurystyki – RELATIONSHIPS/INTERACTIONS. HUMAN AND NON-HUMAN BEINGS IN HUMANITIES RESEARCH

On 23 April 2026, in the lecture hall of the Old Library Building, the next edition of ‘Heurystyki’, a series of UW Doctoral Schools’ seminars initiated by the Rector of the University of Warsaw, Professor Alojzy Z. Nowak, and organised under his patronage, took place. During the meeting entitled RELATIONSHIPS/INTERACTIONS. HUMAN AND NON-HUMAN BEINGS IN HUMANITIES RESEARCH, the doctoral students form the Disciplines of Literary Studies and Art Studies presented the results of their research in the presence and with the substantive support of their supervisors:

– Lux Profus, MA, who is conducting research in the field of literary studies under the academic supervision of Prof. Dr hab. Dominika Oramus, (Faculty of “Artes Liberales”):
“The Animal-Machine” in the Literary Laboratory.

– Aleksandra Leniarska, MA, who is conducting research in the field of literary studies under the academic supervision of Dr hab. Agnieszka Graff-Osser, UW Professor (Centre for American Studies, Institute of the Americas and Europe):
Non-human reading: the contemporary American novel between the mountain lion and the linguistic model.

– Anna Potoczny, MA, who is conducting research in the field of literary studies under the supervision of Dr hab. Justyna Włodarczyk, UW Professor (Faculty of Modern Languages, Institute of English Studies) and Dr. Joanna Mąkowska (Centre for American Studies, Institute of the Americas and Europe):
Towards Plant Writing: The Literary Flora of Virginia Woolf.

– Adam Perzyński, MA, who is conducting research in the field of art studies under the academic supervision of Prof. Dr hab. Grażyna Jurkowlaniec (Faculty of Cultural and Art Studies, Institute of Art History) and Dr Magdalena Herman (Faculty of Cultural and Art Studies, Institute of Art History):
What does an archangel look like, and is a horse really what everyone sees it to be? Non-human beings in the work of Tomasz Makowski.

Apart from a large number of doctoral students, the event was attended by the Vice-rector for Doctoral and Legal affairs, dr hab. Adam Niewiadomski, prof. ucz., Vice-Rector for Research, Prof. Zygmunt Lalak, the heads of Doctoral Schools at the UW, deans of humanities faculties, as well as supervisors.
